When to Send Letter
If your vehicle qualifies for Hawaii Lemon Law, you must send written notice of the nonconformity to the manufacturer during the period of the warranty and within two years after original delivery of the car to a consumer or within the first 24,000 miles of operation, whichever occurs first (this is called the Lemon Law Rights Period);
Your Hawaii Lemon Law Letter should be sent at the following:
- After the 3rd unsuccessful attempt to repair the same problem or
- After 1 unsuccessful repair for a defect that could cause a bodily injury or
- if the defects still exist after 30 cumulative days out of service.
The HI lemon law letter should be sent by certified mail-return receipt requested to the manufacturer and included your name, address and telephone number.

Below is a sample Hawaii Lemon Law Letter which can be used to provide the required written notice of the defect or condition and your request for a new car or full refund. You can obtain the address of the auto manufacturer from Statement of Hawaii Lemon Law Rights or warranty booklet.
