If you are in the market for a new car, read on. Consumer Reports published their 2021 list of most and least reliable cars. Below you will find the list of the Top 10, Least Reliable Car Models for 2021. If you wind up purchasing one of the lesser reliable car models, you risk returning to the dealership to deal with the issues discussed below.

The list is based on a breakdown of 17 identified problems that signal reliability issues. Consumer Reports designates a reliability score from 1 to 100; 1 is the least reliable, 100 being the most reliable. Extra weight is given to the ‘problem categories’ that cost more to repair and are serious concerns for the car owner. Major engine and transmission components, cooling systems, and drive systems are reliability issues that are examples of categories given more weight during the Consumer Reports scoring process.

The 10 Worst Cars of 2021 by Consumer Reports:

A major concern identified by Consumer Reports: defective transmission and engine.

A major concern identified by Consumer Reports: weak, noisy engine and small third row.

  • Volkswagen Atlas: 19/100.

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas is unreliable and more expensive than some of its competitors in the segment.

  • Jeep Compass: 21/100.

The Jeep Compass is Consumer Reports pick for the least reliable car brand in the coming year. A powertrain that doesn’t inspire confidence, inferior materials, and a lack of dependability define the Jeep Compass.

  • Volvo XC90: 26/100.

The Volvo XC90 has a low predicted reliability rating. Despite the Volvo XC90’s having many good features, owners have complained about ride quality, especially with larger wheels.

When we look at new pickup trucks, the GMC Colorado is consistently rated as one of the worst due to few bed features, poor interior, and engine problems.

The 2021 Ford EcoSport is rated poorly due to weak acceleration and wasteful gas mileage. If that isn’t bad enough, the Ford Ecosport has been predicted to be less reliable than the average new car for 2022
