Jeep Gladiator Clutch Recall Details

According to NHTSA, there is a Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler Clutch Recall for manual transmission-equipped Wrangler SUVs from 2018 through 2023 as well as Gladiator pickups from 2020 through 2023.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Jeep clutch pressure plate is defective, which can cause overheating, cracking, and the release of hot debris into the transmission case, posing road hazards and even a fire risk.

Causes of Jeep Clutch Issues

The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator manual transmission problems stem from a design specification issue with the clutch pressure plate. In extreme heat conditions, such as frequent shifting, towing, or driving on steep hills, it can fracture. Fractures release hot debris, causing dangerous road conditions and a fire hazard.

There is currently no fix for this issue, but Jeep tells NHTSA that one is under development. Jeep dealerships performed a software update to address the previous recall, but owners who had that fix performed will still need an additional repair once it is ready.
