Cadillac Backup Camera Recall Information

As a result of complaints from consumers regarding the Cadillac rear view backup camera problems with the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Acadia, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation.

Cadillac owners had complained for more than two years about backup camera problems consisting of black screens that showed red triangles and circles with lines through them.

After the NHTA investigation was opened,  General Motors issued a recall for certain Cadillac vehicles due to the backup camera problems. The NHTSA campaign recall number is 22V709.

The following vehicles have experienced Cadillac backup camera problems

  • 2020 Cadillac XT5
  • 2021 Cadillac XT5
  • 2020 Cadillac XT6
  • 2021 Cadillac XT6
  • 2020 Cadillac Escalade
  • 2021 Cadillac Escalade
  • 2020- 2019 Cadillac XT4

The recall was issued because  “the Cadillac rearview camera coaxial cable connectors may have been crimped improperly, causing the rearview camera to fail or function intermittently.”

Cadillac will send letters notifying owners of the backup camera defect, even though there is no remedy available at the moment. As soon as the remedy is available, another letter will be sent.

I had this issue for a year in my XT6 when I bought it. As I had 2 young children in car seats, it wasn’t as easy as you sarcastically make it out to be. If I pay $65k for a car, I expect the damn rearview camera to be working off the dealer lot. It literally started having issues within 2 weeks and the runaround (until I forced them to fix it the way I instructed them to – with my lemon lawyer in tow) was unacceptable…..It has to do with a specific harness issue and they avoided a recall because they were short on the replacement wiring harness and it took a lot of time to replace.

The camera system has not been turning on intermittently. Both the rear backup and the side/front cameras bring the screen to a black screen with a red triangle and red camera logo with a line through it (signifying no camera connected?). I have most commonly noticed it when I am parking in my garage at night, but it will work the next day, very hard to reproduce the conditions..
