Is your car a reliable ride or a bomb just waiting to go off?

When you drive a car with a GM .7 Turbo engine, you expect to arrive at your destination with both speed and style. Unfortunately, these modern Chevy vehicles, like those before them, have some problems that most owners aren’t aware of until it’s too late.

What kind of problems are we talking about? Keep reading to discover the answer!

Poor Fuel Economy

Perhaps the most obvious problem with the GM 2.7 turbo is the poor fuel economy. When you’re driving around in a truck powered by this engine, you are simply going to get very bad gas mileage.

For example, this engine looked like an exciting addition to the Chevy Silverado. And those who love driving Chevy cars really enjoyed many aspects of this engine…on paper, at least.

Once they started driving it around, owners realized it had a fuel economy of about 19.6 miles per gallon. This is a lower mpg than promised and whenever gas prices rise, you’re going to really feel it at the pump!

Low Power

Different truck owners want different things out of their vehicles. For example, some drivers just want to get from Point A to Point B. Other drivers want a lot of power whenever they accelerate.

And many of these “power” drivers have been unimpressed with the GM 2.7 Turbo. While the turbo itself provides a nice boost, the non-turbo experience seems slower than many would like.

Obviously, this is just a matter of taste. But some who drove the Chevy Silverado report that it only feels like a typical truck with the turbo on. In other words, the thing that should make the truck go very fast merely serves to make the drive feel normal.

Low Availability

So far, we have covered GM 2.7 Turbo problems that might turn off people who want to buy a Silverado. Ironically, though, the final problem with this engine affects those who are really set on buying one of these Chevy vehicles with the engine.

Thanks to the chip shortages caused in large part by the COVID-19 global pandemic, Chevy hasn’t been able to outfit as many vehicles with this particular engine. As of this writing, you can only get the Chevy 2.7 in two trims: Custom and LT 2FL.

If you actually want these particular vehicles, then you’re in luck. But if you wanted to have as many options as Chevy owners once did, then GM 2.7 Turbo fans are currently out of luck.
