Land Rover Windshield Leak Problem

In spite of this, Land Rover owners have reported complaints about windshield water leak problems.  Consequently, Land Rover is facing class lawsuits stemming from windshield leaks.

How Do Land Rover Water Leak Problems Happen?

Land Rover owners have reported windshield water leaks, especially in the Discovery model.  They report that water is leaking into the cabin of the car along the roof’s edge where the headliner meets the windshield.

A Land Rover Discovery owner reported to Motor Biscuit the following:

once water seeped into the dashboard, it immediately affected the computer controls. He lost signals, messaging, and instrumentation, which would make driving dangerous and problematic.

The cause of the Land Rover windshield water leak are due to the following defects:

  • Cracked metal seam between the actual A-Pillar and the roof
  • Deteriorated windshield rubber gasket
  • Defective Rain Gutters
  • Windshields not being correctly sealed

Land Rover Windshield Water Leak TSB

With all the complaints regarding the windshield water leak its not surprising that Land Rover has issued a (TSB) technical service bulletin.  According to SERVICE ACTION N221: WINDSHIELD WATER LEAKS

A potential issue has been identified on a limited number of Land Rover vehicles within the listed Affected Vehicle Range where water ingress into the passenger compartment or wind noise may be evident. An authorized Land Rover retailer will inspect, and if necessary renew, the front windshield. There will be no charge to owners for this action under this program.

Land Rover dealerships are instructed to hold affected new vehicles under their control. They are required to refrain from selling new vehicles until a water test has been completed to ensure no water leaks have occurred.

The Land Rover Windshield Water Leak TSB instructs dealerships to test for water leak using the following method:

1. Apply soapy water to the top of the windshield determine if there is a leak

2. Use an air blower to blow compressed air around the edge of the inner side of the windshield

3. Replace Land Rover windshield if bubbles form when blowing compressed air around edge of inner side of windshield

4. If no bubbles form, then release vehicle for sale

Land Rover Windshield Water Leak Class Action Lawsuit

In a class action lawsuit, TH Chiro, PLLC, et al., v. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC,  the Land Rover Discovery, as well as other Land Rover models, are alleged to have a problem with the windshield. The windshield problem could lead to water coming into contact with the vehicle’s electrical systems, causing catastrophic damage to the vehicle and posing a threat to passengers.

According to the plaintiff, the Land Rover Discovery suffered a major water leak around its windshield destroying the Land Rover’s dashboard-mounted computer system. The windshield water leak led to a dangerous driving condition, a problem that is allegedly widespread for Discovery SUVs.

After taking the Discovery to the dealership for repairs, the plaintiff was allegedly told the Land Rover windshield leaks were a common problem with SUVs.

The class action law suit alleges:

Land Rover allegedly knew about the windshield problem with its Discovery models but actively concealed the windshield leak defect
