2024 Volvo XC60 Problems

Learn about the 2024 Volvo XC60 problems and complaints.

The 2024 Volvo XC60 is a luxury SUV that is built to outperform its competitors. The company claims the Volvo XC60 has “Intelligent design at every turn”.  However, there’s nothing intelligent about the Volvo 2024 XC60 when its electrical system, computer, and infotainment malfunction, resulting in numerous repairs.

Most Common Problems with 2024 Volvo XC60

The 2024 Volvo XC60 was first released in early 2023. Despite few complaints being posted, it always raises concerns when complaints match those made about the previous model. The problems experienced by prior year owners continue with the 2024 XC60 model and consist of the following problems:

  • Computer
  • Infotainment
  • Lane Departure
  • Battery
  • Electrical

Computer Problems

Just like the previous model year, the 2024 Volvo XC60 has experienced computer malfunctions and infotainment problems.

Just read this complaint to NHTSA from a New York 2024 Volvo XC60 owner:

I recently leased a 2024 Volvo XC60 and the Camera system is not working at night time. During the daytime the Camera is working and able to capture images….At nighttime, the camera is not able to “see” and the images on the onboard screen are all dark….The 2024 Volvo XC60 is not able to transmit images to the onboard screen. I believe this maybe a software issue…but I am not sure. I believe this is a safety issue and respectfully request your help to resolve this issue.

Owners of the 2024 Volvo XC60 have similar complaints to 2023 and 2022 Volvo XC60 owners. As reported in a our previous lemon law blog, Volvo XC60 owners have complained about Volvo XC60 Infotainment problems, electrical system defects, computer malfunctions, and backup camera problems.

Volvo Infotainment Problems

The XC60’s infotainment system have a history of problems and is the most common problem reported by Volvo owners .

Some of the Volvo infotainment problems include:

    • Volvo Infotainment screen and dashboard constantly restarting
    • Sirius XM problems
    • voice command and Google Assistant problems
    • Bluetooth disconnections and other connectivity problems

XC60 Owners have posted many infotainment complaints to online forums.  According to NHTSA, 25 complaints have been posted regarding the 2023 Volvo XC60, with more than half (12) for the infotainment system.

A Volvo XC60 owner from Maryland states to NHTSA:

On November 11, 2023 @ between 10:30 and noon, the (Volvo XC60) infotainment system completely failed. The screen went blank and functions for heat, radio, navigation, cameras, indicator lights in the mirror and the ability to call Volvo emergency services were all lost. A message on the screen said, “Stop the vehicle. This vehicle’s infotainment system has encountered a problem. You can reboot or reset factory settings. If this doesn’t help, please contact a workshop.” This is the second such failure.

Many other Volvo XC60 owners have reported the same infotainment problems.  Just like the 2024 Volvo XC60 owners, prior year owners are also having Infotainment problems.  A 2022 Volvo XC60 owner reports on Edmunds:

I have been loyal Volvo (XC60) customer for years. For the following reasons, we would not recommend the 2022 model at this time. We believe radio access in the infotainment system is feeble….In our opinion, rather than enhancing safety, the (Volvo XC60) infotainment system as presently configured makes driving hazardous. We have communicated with our dealer and Volvo about these issues, but updates to the infotainment system have not been forthcoming to date.

Electrical System Problems

The problems with 2024 Volvo XC60 are not just limited to infotainment defects. There are reports of electrical problems from many XC60 owners.  On Volvo Forums one upset XC60 owner states:

I’m the proud owner of a new 2024 XC60….Now after 1 day I have a giant issue. The sound in my car stops working after a short drive. I mean every sound is gone. The sound of my music, nav, blinkers, cameras…I brought my car back to the dealership today and as expected they just ‘updated’ the software (even though the car is only 2 weeks old) and after 100 meters driving from the dealer it happened again…Now the Volvo dealer has to contact ‘higher ups’ to see what they can start doing to fix the issue…I’m very disappointed

Lane Departure Problems

There are many complaints filed by previous XC60 owners for electrical problems that may be able to offer insight into potential future problems for Volvo 2024 XC60 owners.   A complaint from a 2023 Volvo XC60 owner to NHTSA states:

I’ve had my Volvo XC60 for 6 months and two weeks ago I started getting warning alerts that the braking system, lane departure system and other electrical systems were having issues (the doors wouldn’t lock and car wouldn’t start). I’ve taken the car to the Volvo dealership 3 times and they have been unsuccessful in determining what the issue is. There is something wrong with the software and a software update that was installed on my car at the first service visit (when this began happening 2 weeks ago).

Battery Problems

The 2024 Volvo XC60 problems continue with battery complaints. A XC60 owner reports to Edmunds:

The week after driving it (2024 Volvo XC60) off the lot, there was an issue with the “hybrid” battery and we had to take it back to the dealership. They said they couldn’t find any issues and that they just gave it a little charge. “That should fix the issue”. Fast forward 2 months to Christmas eve – We start the car in the morning because it was a little cold. We left it running for about 10 minutes or so before getting into it. When we started backing up an alert on the dash popped up in red stating “12V Battery Critical Charging Fault STOP SAFELY”. We were unable to drive the car from there and it would no longer start. The tow driver couldn’t get the car started either and on top of that they couldn’t even get it into neutral to get it on the tow truck.
