2020 Cadillac Escalade

2020 Cadillac Escalade

The 2020 Cadillac Escalade (including the Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT) ranks among the most popular luxury SUV models.  For 5 straight years, the Escalade was named the Best Luxury Large SUV for Families.   Although Cadillac claims the 2020 Escalade will “transport you in refined comfort that is deeply rewarding”, owners seem to be transported to the dealer for numerous repairs.  Owners of the 2020 Cadillac Escalade have reported problems and complaints with the transmission, high pressure fuel pump and tires.

Problems with the 2020 Cadillac Escalade Transmission

The 2020 Cadillac Escalade has a 10-speed transmission. We have reported in our prior lemon law blog of problems with the GM 10 speed transmission and an ongoing class-action lawsuit for General Motors involving transmission problems in many Cadillac Escalade vehicles.  There have been numerous reports online by 2020 Cadillac Escalade owners of a hesitation and delay in shifting with the transmission.

One owner reports to NHTSA

Car starts but will not go into drive or reverse. Upon restarting the car, it may or may not go work. When it does work the car will not shift into a higher gear.

Another 2020 Cadillac Escalade owner says on KBB

Bought new from Cadillac…Replaced…transmission sensor and more. Now radio controller is out and no parts to be found for this expensive vehicle according to dealership. Seventy seven thousand miles on a 2015 vehicle that has only seen highways. Worst vehicle i have ever owned. This is the third cadillac but not doubt the last I will own.

Cadillac is aware of the Escalade transmission problems and according to NHTSA Campaign Number 10181687 owners may experience problems with reverse gear and/or no back-up lights resulting in numerous DIC error messages being displayed.  A software anomaly may be causing the transmission condition, and 2020 Cadillac Escalade owners should have the dealer perform a warranty repair consisting of a reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) with the latest available software.

Fuel Pump Leak and Fire Risk

In addition to transmission problems, the 2020 Cadillac Escalade has a malfunctioning fuel pump.  There is a recall on the 2020 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, because the fuel pump may not have a pressure regulator, resulting in over-pressurization. An over-pressurized fuel pump can crack and leak, resulting in a fire risk. Fuel pumps will be replaced at no charge by GM dealers following notification of owners.

Besides the 2020 Cadillac Escalade, the vehicles subject to the fuel pump recall, NHTSA Campaign Number 19V837000, are the following:

  • 2020 Chevrolet Suburban
  • 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • 2020 GMC Sierre
  • 2020 Chevrolet Camaro
  • 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • 2020 GMC Yukon

Problems with Escalade Tires Causing Sudden Loss of Air

A safe drive requires good tires, or else an accident can result in death or serious injury.  Unfortunately the 2020 Cadillac Escalade has been recalled for defective tires.   The Escalade tire recall campaign involves vehicles that were delivered with tires manufactured by Continental that were overcured at the factory.

According to NHTSA Campaign Number 21V115000, over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall resulting in sudden air loss or a belt edge separation which could lead to a tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. GM will notify Escalade owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, replacing them as necessary, free of charge.
